Biography:

 

Alicia Castillo (b.1997) is a composer and performer of acoustic and electroacoustic music. Through close partnerships with collaborators, she crafts narrative-rich music that not only unfolds compelling stories but also invites listeners into immersive sonic journeys exploring the boundaries of how we perceive sound and the art of improvisational interplay. 

Her music has been performed at various festivals including the MISE-EN Festival, TUTTI New Arts Festival, EDME New Music Festival, and PRISMS New Music Festival. As a performer, Alicia has premiered new guitar works by Gabriel Bolaños, Carlos Zárate, and Sofía Matus Cancino. In 2021 she received first place in the Arizona State University Mykytyn Composition Competition and served as the 2022-2023 Composer in Residence for the ASU Wind Ensemble. 

Alicia holds master's degrees in Composition and Guitar Performance from Arizona State University. She is an active music educator at ASU as a faculty associate and Glendale Community College as adjunct faculty teaching music theory, aural perception, electronic music, and composition.
