Biography:

Alicia Castillo (b.1997) is a composer of acoustic and electroacoustic music. Her creative practice moves fluidly between composing, performing, ensemble directing, educating, and new music concert production. The thread tying everything together and the inspiration that follows her to the core of her artistic practice however, is collaboration and exploration. She is drawn to experimenting with different ways of shaping sound into immersive sonic experiences for both listeners and performers.

Her music has been performed at various festivals including the MISE-EN Festival, TUTTI New Arts Festival, EDME New Music Festival, and PRISMS New Music Festival. As a performer, Alicia has premiered new guitar works by Gabriel Bolaños, Carlos Zárate, and Sofía Matus Cancino. In 2021 she received first place in the Arizona State University Mykytyn Composition Competition and served as the 2022-2023 Composer in Residence for the ASU Wind Ensemble.

Alicia holds master's degrees in Composition and Guitar Performance from Arizona State University. She is an active music educator at ASU as a faculty associate and Glendale Community College as adjunct faculty teaching music theory, aural perception, electronic music, and composition.
